The issue with the troublesome node has been resolved. Normally these kinds of issues are resolved in around 15 minutes. We hope it was just a matter of a faulty switch and that it has been replaced.
As previously noted, there was no issue with the server itself and all services remained operational.
We’ve been able to identify the following point that’s causing these traffic woes.

If the ISP you’re using is currently routing traffic across this point then it may time out. Our network provider may be able to contact their contacts at AlterNet for an explanation or speedy fix.
We’re currently seeing intermittent access to some sites on astro. All services are fully operational on this server, however, they may be unreachable for some users.
Work is underway with our network engineers to get this issue resolved.
astro has returned from the reboot and is serving as per normal.
