The load on astro has returned to normal once again.
There have been some additional software updates and both apache and mysql restarted. The system will continue to be monitored closely – more updates to follow.

Due to the ongoing server load issues being experienced on astro some services like collecting mail or browsing database driven sites may be timing out. We’re still working on this issue and have made some progress overnight.
Some of the software on astro is being re-compiled at present so a restart will be required of the web server once complete. This process will only take a couple of minutes to complete each time.
The server is being monitored very closely and we really do appreciate your patience and understanding. As previously stated if you’d like to be moved to a different server please let us know via the helpdesk. Account moves are done outside business hours (after 6pm) and scheduled in the order in which they’re received.
If you have any other comments or questions please contact us via the helpdesk.

astro has been experiencing higher than normal loads for the past few days. Whilst we’ve been working on reducing it the problem hasn’t been resolved yet.
It is a priority but we may still experience spikes at times through the day as normal loads vary at peak times during business hours.
Your patience is appreciated, as always.
If you have any questions please contact the helpdesk.
Also, if you’d like to be moved off this server to another one we can do that outside business hours. This is an option and not a requirement – the issue will be resolved as soon as we can get to the root cause.

astro was rebooted to apply some changes made. Load has returned to normal levels and I’ll be watching it a little more closely.
